Anterodorsal nucleus
The anterodorsal nucleus is one of the three subnuclei of the anterior thalamic nuclei. Most cells in this region are small and densely-packed. It receives afferent input from the lateral mammillary bodies, subiculum, parasubiculum, and postsubiculum, retina, anterior cingulate cortex, granular retrosplenial cortex, and caudal dorsal reticular nucleus. It projects to the presubiculum, parasubiculum, and postsubiculum, hippocampus, and granular retrosplenial cortex. Functionally, the anterodorsal nucleus is involved with determining head direction and thus spatial navigation.
