Account of a Monastery or Temple

The temple and monastic establishments in Bhutan have stories of their origin and development often told in detail by the caretaker. Some establishments have written histories on them giving details of when and how they were built, by whom, how and a detailed list of the statues, paintings and other religious relics and artefacts in it. The accounts of the temples are often found in the biographies of the founder and other important members of the establishment. The accounts and stories of the temple are generally told in a positive light to help people develop faith and respect in the establishment. Pilgrims would often ask the caretaker for a brief introduction to the temple and its contents.
