Restorative Practices

Restorative practices refer to a school-based response to student misconduct that invite the student to acknowledge the harm done, accept responsibility for their behavior, and repair the damage in ways that “restore” the community to its equilibrium. Restorative practices are often conducted in a peer-setting in which other students help to identify the harm done as well as ways to address it. In school settings, restorative practices are generally used as alternatives to punitive discipline, though some schools adopt a hybrid-model.
