Summative Assessment

Summative assessments refer to formal assessment measures used to evaluate students’ learning at the conclusion of a defined period of instruction, such as at the end of a unit. They are often considered “high-stakes” or “higher-stakes” than formative assessments because they have a greater impact on students’ grades.
