Mandala Offering Gesture

In the most common form of offering Bhutanese Buddhists make, the universe as represented by the Indian model of microcosm is offered to the Buddhas and enlightened masters. This microcosmic world has the Mt Meru in the centre surrounded by the four continents and eight sub-continents, all of them filled by various riches and natural delights. This is represented by the hand gesture of maṇḍala in which the fingers are crossed to create a replica of Mt. Meru with two ringers fingers and four continents with the other eight fingers holding each other's tips. Some grains, flowers, coins, etc. are put on the plams to symbolize offering of things in the world.
