Mani

Maṇi refers to Om mani padme hung, the six syllable mantra of Avalokiteśvara, the Buddha of compassion. There are public religious festivals during which this mantra is sung in beautiful tunes and chanted in great numbers. These festivals are therefore called maṇi. In addition to chanting and singing the mantra, the festivals also include cham dances and folk dances as part of the celebration.
