Bhutan has a rich culture of riddle. The term used to describe or refer to riddles is different in the different languages and districts. Some riddle questions are posed using one's own words and phrases. However, many riddles are presented in a poetic style with fixed phrases and expressions using metaphors and similes. In such cases, the riddle phrases are also committed to the memory and recited as accurately as possible when people have riddle competitions.
