This connective means “also.” In Spoken Tibetan, ཡང་ is pronounced ཡའི་. In Literary Tibetan, this connective has three possible forms, depending on the last letter of the preceding syllable.

• ཡང་ is used after the consonants ང་ ན་ མ་ ར་ ལ་
• ཀྱང་ is used after the consonants ག་ ད་ བ་ ས་ and the ད་དྲག་
• འང་ / ཡང་ are used after vowels and འ་

It also appears in the expression ཡིན་ན་ཡང་, meaning “but” or “nevertheless”; this is pronounced ཡིན་ནའི་ in Spoken Tibetan.
