Neuroendocrine Systems

These Neuroendocrine cells are like neurons, but they also produce hormones like endocrine cells. Hormones include serotonin, gastrin, insulin, epinephrine, and growth hormone. Therefore, they receive input from neurons and respond by producing and secreting hormones to target cells to  regulate body functions. Examples of functions include controlling the release of digestive enzymes to break down food, rate at which food moves through the digestive tract, air and blood flow through the lungs, blood pressure and heart rate, glucose in the blood, bone and muscle growth and development.
