Hypoglossal (XII)

The hypoglossal nerve innervates the muscles of the tongue and therefore plays a role in tongue movement. The nerve originates from the medulla. The voluntary tongue movements are due to the signals that start from the motor cortex and go the hypoglossal nucleus in the nucleus.
