The adenohypophysis is also known as the anterior pituitary and is composed of three parts: pars distalis, pars tuberalis, and pars intermedia. Neurons in this region secrete adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), prolactin, luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), growth hormone, and thyroid stimulating hormone.
