Comportment

The Bhutanese society has very strong culture of etiquette and comportment some of which are enforced by the state. Good manners are taught as an important social virtue, and elegance in physical comportment, verbal speech and mental thoughts are seen as defining traits of a person. There are concepts of propriety in eating, drinking, sitting, walking, meeting people, talking, listening, bowing, wearing dress, showing direction, sleeping, etc. The younger generation learns the good manners from the parents and elders during upbringing and official etiquettes are taught in school or specialized trianings by the agents of the state.
