Folk Knowledge and Customs
Bhutan has a very diverse wealth of folk knowledge and customs in areas such as agriculture, animal husbandry, trade, societal management, daily lifestyle, health and wellbeing, which are put in place for smooth process of life and also transmitted informally through practical examples and instructions by the older generation to the younger generation. This is because Bhutan, beside having an ancient cultural heritage, has not been colonized or disturbed by any tumultous political and social upheavals. Although this diverse wealth of cultural practices have remained so far, it is now under serious threat of decline as life in Bhutan is changing rapidly due to the processes of modern development.
