Some Bhutanese families had long stories of dispute and litigation. Before television and other forms of mass and social media, the Bhutanese would narrate the stories of such cases as news and entertainment. The stories of how the government or a royal family penalised certain households contain intriguing accounts of confiscation of private property and the demanding character and behavoiur of courtiers sent to collect penalties or punish people.
